The EPA rates the toxicity level of disinfectants on a scale of I–IV, with Toxicity Category IV being the least toxic. This rating is based on studies submitted to the EPA which examine a product’s toxicity as it relates to acute oral, acute dermal, acute inhalation and primary eye irritation. Based on these studies, a product is also assigned a “signal word”. The signal words and associated toxicity categories are as follows:
Toxicity Category | Signal Word |
Toxicity Category 1 | DANGER |
Toxicity Category II | WARNING |
Toxicity Category III | CAUTION |
Toxicity Category IV | NONE REQUIRED¹ |
¹All Products are required to contain the statement: KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN
EnviroTru® Disinfectant & Deodorizing Cleaner is a unique product that meets EPA requirements for Toxicity Category IV. The safety characteristics are a positive selling feature of EnviroTru and should be highlighted in your sales presentation along with the non-corrosion and materials compatibility feature discussed in last month’s newsletter.
